Forensic Courses
CastleViewUK Forensics Limited has been providing independent, cost-effective training and education in the forensic sciences to the professions, and in schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK, since 1994. Our staff are skilled practitioners and communicators and have a wealth of experience in bringing forensic investigation and the underpinning sciences to life.
Our training events are tailored to the needs of our customers, and are frequently delivered in the following formats:
PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT for PRACTITIONERS
TRAINING for the PROFESSIONS
We are passionate about science and how it underpins all aspects of the investigative process, beginning with the examination of a crime scene to the examination and analysis of physical evidence. We can therefore help your organisation's practitioners to understand the underlying science and appreciate how this affects the way in which they (police) carry out operational investigations, or (legal) interpret the findings. Please call us to find out more about how we can help you with your training requirements.
PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT
We have significant experience in developing taught provision for university courses and postgraduate training in the forensic sciences, and have had involvement in their validation against national Quality Assurance Procedures in several HE institutions. We have occasionally also worked collaboratively with HE in evaluating training provision for the accreditation of training delivered by the NPIA.
We can assist by:
HEALTH AND SAFETY
We also provide full health and safety risk and COSHH assessments for any procedure or activity in the examination of crime scenes and in the laboratory-based forensic investigation of physical evidence. Examples are available on our health and safety web pages.
Please call us to discuss ways in which we can help with your health and safety requirements.
SUPPORT for TEACHERS
FORENSIC COURSES and CRIME SCENE COURSES
If you are a teacher with responsibility for developing, or delivering, a forensic curriculum, then our forensic courses and crime scene courses will help you to achieve your aims. Our courses for teachers are typically residential, in-service training events held on university campus, or by arrangement on your own school/college premises. Courses typically run over a period of four days (also available as, one-day-long components) and cover the following four key themes:
Each course allows you to develop an appreciation of forensic practices, to see how scientific knowledge is placed into and used in a forensic context, to grasp some elements of the interpretation of evidence given the circumstances of a case, and perhaps most importantly of all, to return to school/college equipped with insights which will inform the development of classroom activities and curriculum development.
PROFESSIONAL AND MATERIALS SUPPORT
We have significant experience in developing and validating forensic taught provision for university courses. We also work with teachers to develop materials suitable for their classrooms and can help in the creation of crime scene, and forensic scenarios.
We can assist by:
Further details of case scenarios are available in our leaflet "Example Forensic Scenarios".
Please call us if you would like us to help you to deliver excellence in the teaching of science in a forensic context.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
We also provide full risk and COSHH assessments for any classroom activity involving crime scene examination and laboratory-based forensic examination of physical evidence. Examples are available on our web pages.
COURSES for STUDENTS
FORENSIC COURSES and CRIME SCENE COURSES
With forensic courses and crime scene courses for all ages, we can give young sleuths a real taste of what hands-on forensic examinations and crime scene investigations are really like, and we can do this either in your own school or college, or as a trip away to a university campus. With many case scenarios to choose from, students will:
Our forensic courses and crime scene courses allow students to investigate a case scenario appropriate to their particular age group (Key Stage), gain hands-on experience in core elements of crime scene investigation and/or forensic examination, and develop an appropriate understanding of the scientific issues that underpin the various parts of their investigations.

We usually deliver our forensic courses and crime scene courses in the form of one or two-day events to meet the needs of the schools or college, though occasionally our courses are more extensive, in some cases lasting up to a week, or shorter. We can even provide a keynote speaker to support a school/college-led event. Courses can include crime scene examination, laboratory-based investigation and courtroom presentations, either focusing on just one stage of this crime scene to court process or combinations of them. One-day events typically focus on just one of these stages, whereas two day, or longer events allow us to deliver a more extensive and immersive experience for your students.
Our courses can be tailored to your requirements, including any educational targets embedded within a programme of study (e.g, the Edexcel BTEC First Certificate in Forensic Science) at your school or college. Our courses make the very best use of the environment and facilities in the host department, whether at a university, school or college.
We provide all the resources necessary for the smooth running of the event including staff, materials, equipment, booklets, laboratory ware, etc., so all you have to do is turn up with your students and enjoy the experience. If, on the other hand you would prefer us to offer an event at your own school or college, that too is possible - we just bring everything needed to you.
