The increasing number of university courses has, in part, driven an increase in the number of students wishing to pursue them. Add to this the continuing high levels of interest in "police" and "forensic" programmes on the television, whether fictitious or case-based or simply "on the news", and it is easy to understand why the subject of forensic science in school and college-based education has seen enormous growth, and is here to stay.
Unfortunately, not many science (and other) teachers have an appreciation of forensic investigation, yet find themselves having to teach the subject. Moreover, those who have recently graduated from a "forensic" course to pursue a teaching career often find it difficult to translate what they have learned into something suitable for the classroom and their students.
