Which of the following three suspects could have left the partial fingerprint that was recovered from the crime scene? Why?
Note: You can drag the fingerprint images around by holding down your left mouse button.
Partial Fingerprint
Suspect A - Billy Liar
Suspect B - Larry Lightfinger
Suspect C - Peter Pickpocket
The partial fingermark corresponds to the fingerprint taken from suspect B - Larry Lightfinger.
Why? Because the overlayed partial mark corresponds with the control fingerprint at 6 points (4 ridge endings + 2 bifurcations) and has precisely the same ridge spacing.
No similar correspondence is found with the fingerprints taken from the other two suspects.
